If you have never listened to Shpongle, I’m jealous of you. Because you still have the magnificent opportunity to listen to their three albums for the first time! Shpongle is an incredibly synergitic collaboration between Simon Posford of Hallucinogen and Raja Ram of the 60’s psy-rock band, Quintessence. Are you Shpongled? is their first, most laid back, chilled blend of twisted psytrance and natural instrumentation. A true classic!

Feist is the critically hailed Canadian folk singer with the sweet voice. Her popularity has really exploded over the last two years. Here are a set of 3 remixes, which deconstruct this haunting tune into a throbbing musical beatdown. The Boys Noize remix really rocks.

Continuing with theme of mixtapes from the Fuente Eterno DJs, here is a mix from Laird. Laird is based out of SF and spins an eclectic mix of funky breakbeats and techno. Very catchy, very Burning Man. He really rocked the main stage Saturday night at Fuente, even dropping (I think it was him) an incredible Rage Against the Machine Remix. Unfortunately I don’t have a recording of that particular set, but here is one from a previous party of his. You can check out his other mixes at his website www.djlaird.com

In March I went to a party that rocked my socks off, Fuente Eterno, in a Mexican desert oasis. Although many of the DJs on both nights were great, the pool party during the day was a big highlight. Porter Tinsley, Saynt and Blue took turns throwing down funky electro and retro dance tracks. I wish I had the complete set, along with the hilarous voiceovers the DJs occasionally made, but this hour from Porter Tinsley was particularly awesome.

Oh lawd. These tracks could start a whole new subgenre of music. Classic hip-hop tracks remixed to electro beats. I’m not a great fan of Copy’s original work, but somehow the blend of Bone Thugs vocals with his synthesizers bleeps makes a totally sweet combination. Been playing this EP hard ever since Fuente Eterno back in March. I’m really hoping to get my hands on the Diva Mixtape remixes ASAP.

Some people say the Plastikman mix of Alpha Wave is the greatest classic acid track of all time. Some people brush their teeth 3 times a day.
I’ll say that it’s pretty damn good and worth a listen at least for historical context. Holds up well, even though it was released in 1995. Throbbing deep acid line, repeating a raver’s mantra. Sparse percussion. Unrushed yet propulsive. Ritchie Hawtin at his finest.

Fresh Electro selections by Vitalic off the Citizen Records Label. Builds slow, warm and dirty but has some killer anthems too. Phobos, Cocked locked, So Far Away and Demian are the standouts.
“The Vitalic Family is back, the famous French producer & all his Crew comes back for the first time with a project mixed for the dancefloor, which illustrates their electronic musical tastes.
Lots of artists have a specific musical universe, but rarer are the artists who have a -wide open- culture in which dancefloor music meets beautiful tracks.
Don’t expect to find here commonplaces and others electronic classics, because as with his practice, he decides to surprise. This project is not a continuation of dancefloor tracks but a true musical trip, between electro-pop, minimal techno, 3rd millenium disco et others electronic UFO’s.”
